5 Tips For Styling Your Child's Space

5 Tips For Styling Your Child's Space

Whether it's a small corner of your living room, your child's bedroom or a dedicated playroom, you can create a beautiful, inviting space for your child to play/sleep in. Where do you start? This is where we step in. Below, we've outlined 5 tips to help you get started:

  1. Look at your space. You're probably thinking "yeah, obviously!", but unless you see what space you're dealing with, then you'll not be able to utilise it effectively. Decide what area of your house you want to give up (because let's face it, amongst the sea of toys, it no longer belongs to us!). Where does your child mostly play with their toys? Is it in your living room, dining room, bedroom or a spare room or your house? Figuring this out quickly will help you tackle the first steps in styling their area.
  2. Think about organisation. So, it's the end of a long day, where do all of your child's toys go? Are they piled into the corner of the room or hidden in a cupboard out of sight? If you've decided on your designated room to store them, let's think about how they are going to be stored. Let's face it, at the end of a day we want a tidyish space where we can unwind from a hard day's work! If you have the space, it's worth investing in toy storage such as a large toy box or a sturdy basket. Here at Wholesome Home, we have a range of baskets ideal for toys, such as our stunning Extra Large Round Rattan Basket with Handles. Investing in large toy storage, makes organising your child's toys so much easier and is one of the first steps in being able to beautifully style the space.
  3. Decide on a rough theme/style. Whether you want to style the space in accordance to the rest of your home style or you're brave enough to give your child the decision-making role, it still takes careful thought and planning to create a wonderfully styled space. Think of what a makes you happy when it comes to style. Is it a calm, neutral space with natural materials, a bright, energetic area with quirk or anything in between? Don't worry about having a final plan in mind, we are just creating a starting point and things may change along the way.
  4. Look for inspiration. Once you have some ideas of the theme or colour scheme that you like, look online for images of spaces that have a similar style. Personally, we love Pinterest, Instagram and Google Images for this! Just enter a few search terms such as 'neutral playroom' or 'fun toy storage' to generate images which you can browse through and save for future reference. Seeing these images may help you visualise what your space could look like and what colours/accessories could be used. Create a vision/pin board and save away as many photos as necessary to inspire you. You may have multiple boards with different styles to decide between.
  5. Refine and create! By this point, you should have a very good idea of the style you want to adopt in your space. Now its time to browse the internet for accents to compliment the space. You may be looking for a comfy rug or paint colours to transform the area. Why not browse our Kids section, where you'll find a large range of Hanging Hot Air Balloon Decorations in many colours and sizes. If you are styling a small space, such as the corner of your living room, you may have found some beautiful storage pieces, wall art or accessories that you have picked out to transform the space.

We hope that you have found this blog useful in helping to style your child's space. Remember to have fun with it and don't put pressure on yourself to create an 'Instagram worthy' space (whatever that is). Children are happy with whatever space they have to play in and you should always have the aim of making it practical for your family and day-to-day living. Happy styling!
