Summer is the perfect time of year to relax and unwind, yet why do many of us still find it difficult to set aside the time to do this?
Quite often we feel external pressures from social media or TV ads to cram our summers with fun-filled activities or expensive beach holidays in order to fit in with 'the rest of society' and avoid the FOMO. This can make us feel exhausted and disappointed if we haven't managed to achieve everything we set out to do whilst the warmer months were here. Whilst these activities and holidays can be enjoyable, they aren't always necessary to be able to have fun and wind down over the summer. Our most cherished memories can be made by enjoying the simpler pleasure of life.
We have set out 3 ways to unwind this summer without breaking the bank and putting too much pressure on yourself:
Dine Alfresco
Whether alone or with family and friends, there is something wonderfully pleasing about dining outdoors in the summer. Choosing your favourite public spot to dine such as on the beach, by a calm lake or even in your garden can instantly bring a sense of relaxation to your day. It encourages you to get outdoors and breathe in fresh air, whilst also giving our bodies some much needed Vitamin D! Set down a throw, like our beautiful Cream and Grey Striped Throw and enjoy your favourite food whilst soaking in the views. Don't forget to keep hydrated on those warmer days with a lidded cup/glass that can be used on the go without the risk of spillages - we recommend our Drinking Glass with a Bamboo Lid and Stainless Steel Straw for a more eco-friendly option.
Get in the Garden
Give yourself a digital detox by detaching yourself from electronic devices and connecting with nature. Research has shown that people who have a good connection with nature (spend more time outside), live happier lives and have a sense of purpose in their life. According to mentalhealth.org.uk "nature can generate many positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, and creativity and can facilitate concentration".
Gardening can be an enjoyable way to get outdoors and appreciate the beauty of nature. You don't have to be an expert to get to work on your garden, why not start by giving your garden a tidy by trimming any overgrown shrubs or removing weeds? Our Willow Basket with Handle is a perfect garden companion for collecting any garden waste. It can also be cleaned afterwards and be used as household storage or even a picnic basket. You can also find a selection of stunning ceramic planters across our website that will complement an array of garden styles.
Don't have a garden? Don't stress. Many local authorities across the UK offer free membership to local gardening clubs to encourage people of all ages to get outdoors, learn vital gardening skills and make new friends.
Read a Book
Reading is a fantastic way to wind down at any time of the year; however, there is something extra blissful about reading during the summer. You can take your book with you wherever you go, such as a peaceful part of the park or alongside the the rippling sound of the waves at the seaside. A book can distract you from the chaotic stresses of daily living and transport you to a fictional land.
Whatever you choose to do this summer, try not to put too much pressure on yourself and opt for days that encourage you to slow down and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Enjoy your summer!
